Half power in a home is one of those problems that sounds strange until you understand what causes it. When a meter socket corrodes badly enough - or worse, has a lug blow off from arcing - you lose one leg of the incoming power. That means half your circuits go dead. Lights dim, appliances stop working, and the whole situation feels confusing because some things still work fine.
That's exactly what we were dealing with at this duplex in Eagan. The old meter socket was heavily corroded, had melted components, and a lug had blown off from arcing. It was in bad shape. The kind of shape where you're genuinely surprised it was still holding together at all.
We pulled it out completely and replaced it with a clean, new duplex meter socket setup - two fresh meter positions, properly installed and ready to go. Both units on the duplex now have full, reliable power restored. No more lost circuits, no more mystery half-power issues.
This is a good reminder that not every electrical problem starts inside the house. The meter socket is the entry point for your power, and when it fails, everything downstream pays the price. If you're dealing with dimming lights, dead circuits, or anything that feels like you're only getting partial power, it's worth having someone take a look at the whole service entrance - not just the panel inside.
Meter socket replacements, panel and breaker replacements, and full service upgrades are all in our wheelhouse. If something feels off with your power, don't ignore it.
